SuSE 7.1 based Linux, some time I'll have to install a new system...
upgrading SuSE is hard nowadays.

rpms from all SuSE 7.x should do, but I didn't find any, SuSE 7.x has
only php 4.0.x. I looked at the rpm specs to build my own version, but
this seems no fun.

/tmp should work, shouldn't it?
